What Is It?
Asian Handicap betting eliminates the draw as an outcome by applying a goal handicap to one team. Unlike European (3-way) handicaps, Asian Handicaps can result in void bets (stake refunded) or half-win/half-loss outcomes on quarter-goal lines. This complexity makes it one of the most popular but misunderstood betting markets.
The Asian Handicap Calculator takes your stake, odds, the handicap line, and the actual scoreline, then shows you the exact settlement: whether you win, lose, push, half-win, or half-lose, along with the precise payout and profit/loss amount.
The tool also generates a full scenario table showing every possible outcome for common scorelines, so you can understand at a glance exactly what needs to happen for your bet to pay out.
How to Use
Formulas & Data Sources
Asian Handicap settlement depends on the line type:
Whole Line Settlement:
Quarter Line Settlement (split into two half-bets): Line is split into two adjacent half-goal lines. Example: -0.75 = half the stake on -0.5, half on -1.0. Each half is settled independently.
All data is user-supplied. The handicap line and odds come from your bookmaker. Scoreline data is entered manually (or hypothetically for scenario planning).
Real-World Scenarios
You bet $100 on Team A -0.5 at 1.90. Team A must win by any margin. If they win 1-0:
If they draw 0-0: loss = -$100. No push is possible on half lines ā it’s a clean win or loss.
You bet $100 on Team A -0.75 at 1.95. This splits into $50 on -0.5 and $50 on -1.0. If Team A wins 1-0: the -0.5 half wins ($50 x 1.95 = $97.50) and the -1.0 half pushes (refund = $50).
If Team A wins 2-0: both halves win. Total payout = $195, profit = $95.
You bet $100 on Team A at 0 (level) handicap at 1.85. If the match is a draw: your entire stake is refunded (push). If Team A wins:
If Team A loses: loss = -$100. The 0 line is essentially “draw no bet.”
Frequently Asked Questions
QWhat does 'push' or 'void' mean?
A push means your stake is returned in full. This happens on whole lines (0, -1, -2, etc.) when the adjusted goal difference is exactly zero. You don’t win or lose.
QHow is Asian Handicap different from European Handicap?
European handicaps are 3-way (win/draw/lose after handicap applied) and never refund your stake. Asian handicaps eliminate the draw through half-goal lines or refund your stake (push) on whole lines. Asian handicaps also offer quarter-goal lines for more granular markets.
QWhat is a quarter-goal line?
A quarter-goal line (e.g., -0.25, -0.75, +1.25) splits your bet into two equal halves on the adjacent half-goal lines. For example, -0.25 = half on 0 and half on -0.5. This creates the possibility of half-win or half-loss outcomes.
QCan I use this for live/in-play betting?
Yes. Asian Handicap lines are commonly offered in-play. The calculator works the same way ā just enter the live handicap line and odds.
QWhy do bookmakers prefer Asian Handicap markets?
Asian Handicaps reduce the bookmaker’s risk by eliminating the draw and offering more granular markets. They’re also harder for casual bettors to understand, which can work in the bookmaker’s favor. For informed bettors, AH markets often offer better value than 1X2.
